“I would like to thank you for transforming my life. I know that sounds rather melodramatic, but my sessions with you have made such a difference, that it really has been a transformation.”Francince Valcourt

“I wanted to write and thank you for helping me to get control of my life and my weight with the virtual gastric band procedure. I’d heard of it before, but after many failed attempts at Weight Watchers, South Beach and numerous other diets, I decided to look at it again. As a registered nurse I knew what the extra weight was doing to my health. I also knew that I did not want to go under anesthesia or have body altering surgery, thus hypnosis seemed like a perfect solution.”
~Charlotte D., Boston
“After I was hypnotized I instantly felt as if a weight was lifted off my shoulders. A sigh of relief. A feeling of calm, yet energized.
I am so grateful for being a non smoker and to Don for all of his help! He can truly help any people who want to help themselves and believe in themselves.”
“My ambient stress is lower than it’s been in my entire life. I’m more confident. My day-to-day stress and anxiety level is lower than I could have imagined it could be. I didn’t think people could be this relaxed.”~Geoffrey,
My own story—with quite a twist
Although I didn’t realize it until many years later, I’ve been studying hypnosis in one form or another most of my adult life. I now feel fortunate that those early feelings that I could be doing more with my life steered me in the direction of self-improvement. Like many people, I grew up in a dysfunctional family, and it has taken quite awhile to recover from that. As someone with ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder) I had to overcome the low self-esteem that results from being told I could always do better. No matter how well I did, whether with school or sports or relationships, I never felt like it was enough. The good news is those feelings fired me up to pursue a life studying personal development. Ultimately, I was able to improve my life, but I realized I needed to do it on my own terms. I believe this gives me a deep empathy for the various challenges my clients face.
Throughout my life I’ve been a devoted student of the human potential movement, reading countless books and attending more workshops than I can name. Many of the techniques I learned used the same principles as hypnosis. This created a receptive framework for what would eventually become my formal study of hypnosis—but it took a real crisis to send me in that direction.
My beloved wife of 23 years, Barbara, was diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer. At the time she was an RN doing health promotion work with non-profits to help as many people as she possibly could. That had always been Barbara’s mission in life, helping others. While she was doing that, I was growing my software consulting business so that we could retire happily ever after.
However, when cancer strikes everything changes. Dreams of a happy retirement no longer meant anything. Being there for Barbara was all that mattered, and we were blessed with four more years. Every day was precious—and then she was gone.
Rebuilding a life isn’t easy, but I had the foundation of all my previous self-help work to get me through it. Shifting toward working more closely with people has been healing for me as well. My hypnosis training has allowed me to connect with people on a deeper level, and I’ve learned what Barbara knew all along—that guiding others toward better health and well-being is a wonderful way to spend your life. There was a time when I couldn’t imagine ever feeling good again. Now I know anything’s possible, and that’s what I promote at Just Imagine Hypnosis Center, which I founded in 2010. I now feel that my hypnotherapy practice is a meaningful way to honor Barbara’s memory and all that her life stood for.
With a large family and the support of good friends and colleagues, life does indeed go on…that’s me with my great-granddaughter Lily. I am thriving in my next chapter—even if it wasn’t how the original story was supposed to end.
